Mountain View is a city that is part of the San Francisco metropolitan area in the state of California. It is located in Santa Clara County and has a population of approximately 74,000 residents. The metro San Francisco area has a population of about 4.3 million residents. Thanks to the city's biggest employer, Google, Inc., there is free citywide Wi-Fi available throughout Mountain View. The Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts hosts theatrical performances throughout the year. Tickets may be purchased online, by phone, or in person at the center's box office. The Computer History Museum is the biggest and best of its kind in the world. The 25,000 square foot museum features exhibits that focus on the history of computing and its impact on society. It is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The 750-acre Shoreline Park is definitely worth a visit. In addition to being a wildlife and recreation area, the park is home to a lake, an 18-hole golf course and a series of both paved and unpaved trails. Also at Shoreline Park, the Rengstorff House is the oldest home in Mountain View. The 3,955 square foot Victorian Italianate home is open to the pubic for tours on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Nearby, in San Francisco, there are several sights worth visiting. The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) is home to a fantastic modern art collection. It is open Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. The museum has extended hours every Thursday until 8:45 p.m. The Asian Art Museum features over 17,000 works of Asian art and it is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The unique Exploratorium has hundreds of interactive, hands-on exhibits that focus on art and science. It is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The de Young Museum is in Golden Gate Park and features works of art ranging from paintings and decorative arts to photography and textile arts. It is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. The Legion of Honor Museum is in Lincoln Park and it is also open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. It features exhibits that contain European paintings, photography and decorative art.

Perhaps the most famous of San Francisco's sights is the Golden Gate Bridge. When first completed, in 1937, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world. The bridge is open daily to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. San Francisco's other famous attraction is Alcatraz Island. Tours are available daily and reservations are recommended, because the tours usually sell out well in advance.

Every April, the Spring Family Parade takes place in Mountain View. The celebration features games, crafts, music, food and of course, a parade. Since 1971, The Arts and Wine Festival has featured food, live music, arts and craft vendors and of course, wine tastings and products. The city's annual Summer Concert Series takes place every Thursday evening in July and August. Admission is free and picnicking is encouraged.

In San Francisco, one of the biggest festivals held each year is the Chinese New Year celebration. This event features a parade, food and craft vendors and live musical and theatrical performances. The annual San Francisco Pride celebration takes place every summer and pays tribute to the city's LGBT culture. It features live musical and theatrical performances as well as a parade.

San Francisco has two major professional sports teams. The San Francisco 49ers play for the National Football League at Candlestick Park and the San Francisco Giants play Major League baseball at AT&T Park. In San Jose, the Sharks play for the National Hockey League at HP Pavilion.

The average temperature in Mountain View in the winter ranges from 46 to 52 degrees Fahrenheit. In the spring, the average is about 50 to 60 degrees. Summertime temperatures average between 64 and 71 degrees. In the fall, the average temperatures are between 65 and 75 degrees.
